Haleyville's 9-1-1 Festival

Celebrate a unique piece of American history at the Haleyville Alabama 9-1-1 Festival June 5–6 in downtown Haleyville! Marking the anniversary of the nation’s first 9-1-1 emergency call placed in Haleyville in 1968, this family-friendly festival features live music, arts and crafts vendors, parade festivities, food, classic cars and plenty of small-town fun.

Friday night’s entertainment includes country singer Aaron Tippin, along with performances by Lonesome River Band and Confederate Railroad. Saturday brings even more excitement with a motorcycle show, kids’ zone, antique cars, vendors and live music throughout the day. Festival activities are free and open to the public.

June Fling

Get ready for a day of fun at the June Fling in Oneonta on June 6! This beloved community festival fills downtown with arts and crafts vendors, delicious food, live entertainment and family-friendly activities all day long. Visitors can shop local booths, enjoy festival treats and take in the lively small-town atmosphere that makes Oneonta such a fun place to visit.

Rock The South - New in Decatur

One of the Southeast’s biggest music festivals is kicking off a new chapter as Rock the South 2026 heads to Decatur June 11–13! After 15 years in Cullman, the popular festival is making its debut at The Fields at Decatur with three days of live music, camping, food vendors and unforgettable festival energy.

This year’s lineup includes major artists such as Jason Aldean, Riley Green, Zach Top, Brantley Gilbert, Travis Tritt, Lauren Alaina, Jessie Murph, Tracy Lawrence and many more. Rock the South will also introduce the new Raised Rowdy Stage, spotlighting emerging artists and rising stars throughout the weekend. Organizers expect thousands of visitors to attend, bringing an exciting boost to Decatur’s hotels, restaurants and local businesses.

The Miracle Worker

Playwright William Gibson's epic drama, The Miracle Worker at Ivy Green, is performed on the grounds of Ivy Green, the birthplace of Helen Keller, showcasing to the world the miracle that took place in the late 1800s. The 64th annual production will run on Fridays and Saturdays, June 12-27 and July 10-18.

The live performance recalls the childhood of deaf-blind Helen Keller, who suddenly lost her sight and hearing at the age of 19 months, and the extraordinary teacher, Annie Sullivan, who taught her to communicate with the world. The play carries the audience into the daily disappointments and then the miraculous breakthrough of the young Helen at the guidance of her teacher, with authentic costumes and sets and professional acting.

Gates open at 7pm and play begins at 8pm. Patrons are welcome to walk the grounds prior to curtain. Admission is $20/reserved seating and $15/general admission. Groups of 20 or more receive a $2 discount per ticket. Estes Field PCA Rodeo

Rodeo action will hit the dirt when the Estes Field PCA Rodeo returns to the North Alabama lake town of Centre. Sponsored by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and the City of Centre, Alabama, the rodeo will take place June 12-13, 2026.

Not just for rodeo fans, the Estes Field PCA Rodeo promises to bring family-friendly excitement to Centre for two days in June. Gates open at 5:30pm with mutton busting at 6:30pm and the rodeo following at 7:30pm both nights. Competitive events lined up include bareback riding, calf roping, break-away roping, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing and bull riding. As cowboys and cowgirls compete for prize money, the crowd is also entertained with professional rodeo clowns and there will be food trucks for those arriving hungry.

Daily ticket prices are $20 per person. Admission is free for five years old and younger. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism office or at the gate.

Melea is also the host of Unexpected Adventures in North Alabama, AMLA’s new podcast, produced by Relic Agency. The podcast won a 2022 Muse Award - Silver in the Audio/Podcast category. Melea was honored in October 2023 with the Tourism Promoter of the Year Award from the Alabama Restaurant & Hospitality Association for her work on the podcast.

Prior to working for AMLA, Melea received her Masters at UNA in Secondary Education and taught middle school English and coached middle school cheerleaders for three years. She also taught English at Calhoun Community College for 8 1/2 half years. Before that she worked in public relations for an advertising agency in Atlanta, a minor league baseball team in Columbus, Georgia, and for Auburn University in the development office. In 2020, Melea created her very own social media marketing agency called M and M Social. She loves to write, travel, walk in the park (she walked over 600 miles in 2020), go to Auburn games, and read books about WWII.
