Soaring to New Heights with Eagle Awareness at Lake Guntersville State Park
Decatur, Ala. – In January and February, eagles take center stage in North Alabama when Lake Guntersville State Park hosts the annual Eagle Awareness weekends giving birding enthusiasts a chance to learn more about the magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Now in its 33rd year, Eagle Awareness is held every weekend from January 19 through February 18, 2018.
The Eagle Awareness Program at Lake Guntersville State Park features live bird demonstrations, interactive programs provided by notable speakers from across the country, guided field trips for viewing eagles in their natural habitat, and activities for children. There will be demonstrations by Wings to SOAR, Alabama 4H Center and Auburn University’s Southeastern Raptor Center. Noted speakers include West Tenn. Interpretive Specialist David Haggard, Brittney Hughes from Desoto State Park, Alabama State Park’s Ken Thomas and Mandy Pearson, Dr. George Cline from Jacksonville State University, Curt Cearly with RISE Raptor Project, naturalist Paul Franklin, David Hollaway from Camp McDowell and LGSP naturalist Michael Ezell. The dates for 2018 are Jan. 19-21, Jan. 26-28, Feb. 2-4, Feb. 9-11 and Feb. 16-18. A schedule (subject to change) is as follows:

The Eagle Awareness events are free to the public. Registration is not required to attend the programs or field trips. Sessions can fill up quickly so participants are encouraged to arrive early.
