The City of Moulton to Hold Nine Weeks of Patriotic Activities from May to July

Decatur, Ala. (April 23, 2026) – American Legion Post 25 in Moulton proudly announces nine weeks of community-wide patriotic activities and events honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans while commemorating America’s 250th birthday.

Beginning in early May and continuing through the Fourth of July, the initiative will feature a series of patriotic displays and events designed to bring the community together in remembrance and celebration. Throughout the city, veteran banners will be placed and streets will be adorned with red, white and blue bunting as a visible tribute to those who have served.

“It is often said that freedom is not free,” said Event Organizer Phil Terry. “Many veterans have given so much so that we may continue to live with pride, honor and freedom. This celebration is a way to remember their sacrifice while strengthening community spirit.”

Key events include:

May 4: Placement of 250 American flags along Highway 157, a main thoroughfare through Moulton, in honor of the nation’s 250th birthday.

May 9: Installation of 106 white crosses at the American Legion field, each bearing the name of a Lawrence County veteran who gave their life in service to the country.

May 17: “One Nation Under God: 250 Years of Valor” community gathering at 2:30 p.m. at the H.A. Alexander Park Recreation Center located at 13550 Court Street. This non-denominational event will include music, prayer and reflection, and is open to all.

June 19: Flag Day celebration on the square in Moulton at 10 a.m.

The celebration will culminate on July 4 with a free, old-fashioned, family day picnic at H.A. Alexander Park from 11 a.m. until dusk. The event will feature traditional games such as sack races, three-legged races, tug-of-war, horseshoes, archery and a soapbox derby, along with live music and food trucks. The day will conclude with a fireworks display.

Terry added, “Patriotism is alive and well in our community. We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate our nation’s birthday and remember those who made it possible.”
