Free Family Fun at Joe Wheeler State Park
Decatur, Ala. – To celebrate the end of summer, the Rogersville Chamber of Commerce and Joe Wheeler State Park invite everyone to a day of family fun along the banks of Wheeler Lake. Set for August 19, 2017, Rockin’ the River is a celebration of live music, children’s activities, food and other family-friendly fun at one of north Alabama’s premier state parks, Joe Wheeler State Park.
Free fun awaits kids from 1 to 7 p.m. with a Kids’ Fun Area offering a giant blow up slide, bouncy house, Alabama Wildlife Center Educational Tent, sidewalk chalk, face painting and cow train rides. A handful of bands are scheduled to perform on the patio beginning at 2:30 p.m., and along with some of the area’s best musicians, there will be concessions, cash bar and raffle drawings. Twilight golf featuring unlimited golf for $27 at “The General” golf course will also be offered from 1 to 7 p.m.
On Friday evening, August 18th, Joe Wheeler State Park will host its annual Purple Party Prince Tribute featuring popular Prince hits. A special rate of $109.50 plus tax for a standard room (or $195 plus tax for Friday and Saturday nights) is available for those who want to plan an overnight getaway. A 2,550-acre resort located on the shores of Wheeler Lake, Joe Wheeler State Park features a stunning waterfront lodge with restaurant and convention facilities, 18-hole golf course and clubhouse, full-service marina with docking slips, modern and primitive camping, lakeside cottages, and cozy cabins.
