Embrace the Spirit of German Heritage at the Cullman Oktoberfest Oct. 3-5

Decatur, Ala. (September 3, 2024)  – One of North Alabama’s largest and most anticipated events takes over downtown Cullman, Ala. in celebration of the town’s German beginnings next month. Now in its 42nd year, the Cullman Oktoberfest is a three day event offering all things German including a biergarten, lively music, cultural displays and delicious German cuisine.

During Cullman Oktoberfest, attendees can touch, feel and taste German culture. The three day event gets underway at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3 when the biergarten and kids zone open. A parade takes to the streets at 6 p.m. with the official opening ceremonies and tapping of the keg immediately following. Throughout the evening there will be live German music, street entertainers, crowning of Miss Oktoberfest, brat eating contest (16+) to see who can eat the most brats, stein hoisting contest (21+) and candlelight walking tours. High energy dueling pianos will deliver a dynamic live music experience beginning at 9 p.m. at Hofbräuhaus.

Senior Day is slated for Friday, Oct. 4 and the festivities get underway at 10 a.m. From artisan crafts to mouthwatering treats, a diverse array of vendors offer a delightful marketplace experience. For the adults throughout the day, there will be a biergarten and another round of brat eating, stein hoisting and costume contests and activities for children include a kid’s zone, costume, stein hoisting and pretzel eating contests. Dueling pianos return at 9 p.m. at Hofbräuhaus.

The Oktoberfest 5K and 10K hits the streets at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, Oct. 5 and family-friendly fun resumes at 10 a.m. Along with the biergarten, vendor market, more brat eating and stein hoisting contests and a kid’s zone, there will be music by the Cullman Community Band and an Oktofurfest featuring a Weiner dog race, costume contest and parade for four-legged friends. At 9 p.m., dueling pianos take to the stage for the final time for the closing of the three day event at Hofbräuhaus.
