Carrie Banks Honored with Chairman’s Cup Award
Decatur, Ala. (September 22, 2022) - The Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association (AMLA) has honored Carrie Banks with its 2022 Chairman’s Cup award. The award is among 11 that comprise the 2022 PEAK Awards that were presented today at the AMLA Annual Meeting held at Mars Music Hall in downtown Huntsville, Ala.
Representing the highest achievement in North Alabama tourism, the PEAK Awards honor individuals, events and organizations that have had a major impact on tourism in North Alabama. The Chairman’s Cup Award is given annually to a travel writer or media person who has over time demonstrated support of AMLA, the region and its tourism activities.
Banks is the communications director for the Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM), a role she has served since 1997, and is the editor of The Alabama Municipal Journal. Banks understands the return on investment for tourism and how important it is for a city’s growth, especially in rural areas. Through her efforts, the focus of the spring 2022 issue centered on rural and small town tourism with articles on embracing public art and murals in communities, creating a brand on social media, celebrating small town festival success, understanding the importance of sustainable tourism and turning outdoor recreation into economic development. The magazine is mailed to all elected officials and to top administrative and legal personnel of member cities and towns. Members of the Legislature also receive the magazine as well as the Alabama Congressional Delegation, sister leagues throughout the country, subscribers and stakeholders. The total circulation is approximately 4,500.
“With the PEAK Awards, we celebrate and recognize the many talented individuals and organizations who offer our visitors a unique and memorable experience. These individuals and organizations continue to show their commitment, resilience and ingenuity, even during the uncertain times a pandemic brings with it. Because of these tourism leaders, attractions, festivals and front-line workers, the tourism and travel industry continues to be a driving force in North Alabama’s economy,” said AMLA President/CEO Tami Reist.
