AMLA’s Tami Reist Appointed to Alabama Women’s Commission
Decatur, Ala. (April 5, 2024) – Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association (AMLA) President and CEO Tami Reist has been appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey to serve on the Alabama Women’s Commission effective immediately. Reist will serve as a representative of Congressional District 4, replacing Ms. Gina Johnson of Moulton. The term of service will expire January 4, 2028.
Reist brings over 30 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry of North Alabama to the Alabama Women’s Commission. At AMLA where she has led the organization since 2013, she is responsible for the planning, implementing and directing of promotional programs as well as overall development of the tourism and travel industry within the 16 northernmost counties in Alabama. The region currently generates more than $4.3 billion in travel expenditures on an annual basis. She is a board member for a number of tourism and travel-related and civic organizations including: Governor Appointee to the Scenic Byways Committee, Southeast Tourism Society Legislative Council, the, Alabama Travel Council, Alabama Council of Association Executives, Alabama Association of Destination Marketing Organizations, and numerous other local and state travel related groups. She is also an instructor at the Southeast Tourism Society’s Marketing College and has been a contributing presenter to the tourism and travel field of study at Mississippi State University. Among her many recognitions are the ATHENA Leadership Award from the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, the Alabama Travel Council Partnership Award, the Southeast Tourism Society Dorothy Hardman Spirit Award and This is Alabama and Birmingham Magazine’s Women Who Shape the State honoree.

I am excited to work with a group of passionate women from across our great state who bring diverse experiences to the table and who want to help drive positive change by building relationships, finding solutions and being advocates for all women in the state of Alabama.”
The Alabama Women’s Commission was established in 1971, by Act of the Alabama Legislature. It serves as a continuing vehicle for the determination of effective policy and legislation in areas affecting Alabama’s women. The commission is composed of three members of the House of Representatives, appointed by the Speaker of the House; two members of the Senate, appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate; and 10 members appointed by the Governor. The purpose of the Commission, as provided in 41-9-413, Code of Alabama 1975, is to improve and advance the lives of women in the State of Alabama. The Commission may study, make recommendations, educate, and promote constructive action on issues related to women which should include, but are not limited to, the following: economic development, education, employment, health, legal rights, political participation, and the quality of individual and family life.
