So much for people who love to appreciate the beauty around us...
Having lived and worked in Birmingham our entire married life, my husband and I decided to buy a weekend getaway on Lookout Mountain. After a year of coming for weekend visits, we fell in love with the area and decided to make it our permanent home. We both retired, relocated, and have never looked back. We often talk about the northeast corner of Alabama being the best-kept secret around. We enjoy the town of Fort Payne and have gotten involved in the Fort Payne Main Street organization as well as Fort Payne First UMC. We love small businesses and have become friends with the business owners. We love the local music and find ourselves sitting outside in town listening to the amazing talent in various restaurants and venues. We have enjoyed Fan Appreciation week with the Alabama band and the Boom Days festival held annually in Fort Payne. But by far our greatest treasures are the people and the landscape. Little River Canyon Nature Preserve and Desoto State Park provide so much for people who love to appreciate the beauty around us, from hiking trails, falls, kayaking, pontoon rides on the river, swimming, zip lines, etc. Within close proximity to Birmingham, Gadsden, Huntsville, Rome, Atlanta, and Chattanooga, as well as two large lakes, Weiss and Guntersville, we truly have everything we need around us while enjoying small-town living. Our grown children and grandchildren love our choice to retire. They think they are on vacation when they visit! We are truly blessed to be here.
