Downtown Decatur’s 3rd Friday was first organized in 2009 by merchants, restaurants and local leaders as a way to bring area residents and visitors to the heart of the historic downtown. Since its inception, the event has grown tremendously and is now a weekend that locals and visitors look forward to each month. From April through October, each monthly event features live music, restaurant and merchant specials, arts and crafts, special events, classic car displays and more that bring all ages to the downtown area for an evening of free family fun.
The festivities get underway at 5:30 p.m. and festival goers are invited to spend the evening looking at a wide variety of antique cars along 2nd Avenue while enjoying some of the area’s best musicians and entertainers. A variety of activities just for children will be available in Jones Park.
Shopping in downtown Decatur is plentiful during the 3rd Friday celebration. Craft vendors selling handmade items and artists and artesian goods vendors will fill the area of 2nd Avenue from Moulton Street to Johnston Street. Additional store specials, giveaways, and discounts will be offered at select retailers, and many of the merchants will remain open until 8 p.m. or later.
