FIDDLING AROUND WITH MUSIC Rogersville Bluegrass Festival set for July 14-16
Decatur, Ala. – The Rogersville Bluegrass Festival returns July 14-16, 2011 bringing with it toe tapping, string plucking, and family fun over the three day event. Along with live music, the annual Bluegrass Festival also includes arts and crafts booths, beauty pageants, shade tree band contest, buck dance contest, and food vendors.
A Fiddlers Contest kicks off the 10th annual event on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. On Friday, the Junior Miss Bluegrass Pageant for ages 16 to 18 years old takes to the stage followed by live music beginning at 7 p.m. from Rank Strangers, Campbell Trio + 2, and Stan Nelson and Hurricane Creek. The music continues on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. with performances by the three aforementioned bands along with Gloria Belle and Tennessee Sunshine, Judge Talford Band, Volume 5, and Lisa Lambert and the Pine Ridge Boys.
Additional activities lined up for Saturday include the Shade Tree Band Contest from 1 until 2 p.m., the Miss Bluegrass Pageant for ages 19 to 22 years old, and a buck dancing contest at 5 p.m. All activities on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be held at the Rogersville Recreation Park located at Lee Street and Wheeler Street (Alabama Highway 207).
Festival hours are Thursday 6 to 10 p.m., Friday 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday 9:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission on Thursday is $5/person, Friday $10/person and Saturday $12/person. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. A limited number of RV and camping sites are available at the Rogersville Recreation Park and at Joe Wheeler State Park.
