THE BEACH COMES TO GADSDEN FOR FIRST FRIDAYS DOWNTOWN CELEBRATION
Decatur, Ala. – The first Friday in June, Broad Street in downtown Gadsden will be transformed into a festive beach street for its monthly downtown celebration. First Friday, set for June 3, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m., concludes the Gadsden Reads: Tales from Margaritaville two month-long project and offers an evening of live music, shopping, plenty of food, and family fun. Festival goers are encouraged to wear their best beach and parrothead attire!
The beach theme continues with the entertainment line-up with music provided by Caribbean Chrome Steel Drum Band outside of the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts; Mr. Blackwell’s Petty Thieves at BB&T Bank; and Damascus Road at 301 Broad Street.
Immediately following First Friday, head over to the Mort Glosser Amphitheater at 90 Walnut Street with your coolers and cushions for the kickoff of the Summer Concert Series at the Amphitheater. A1A, the original and official Jimmy Buffett tribute band, will perform a free concert from 9 to 11 p.m.
Come hungry and ready to shop. A variety of food vendors and restaurants will satisfy those arriving with a hearty appetite. Along with downtown merchants operating sidewalk sales and extended hours of operation, there will be a classic car show along Broad Street.
Admission is free for outside activities. For more information on Gadsden’s First Friday event, call 256.547.8696 or visit www.downtowngadsden.com.
