ALABAMA’S LARGEST CHRISTIAN MUSIC FESTIVAL SET FOR MAY 21 Radio Personality Rick Burgess to Highlight 2011 SoulStock
Decatur, Ala. – Radio personality Rick Burgess of the Rick and Bubba Show is slated to be the guest speaker at the 2011 SoulStock, a free contemporary Christian music worship festival set for May 21 at Point Mallard Park in Decatur, Ala. Along with a heartening testimony from Burgess, the day-long event is filled with performances from eight Christian artists, including GRAMMY-nominated Fireflight.
SoulStock’s mission is “To plant the seed of Jesus Christ in the hearts of our youth and to promote a spirit of unity among all who put their trust in Him.” The day is filled with uplifting performances by Christian artists and inspiring testimonials. Gates open at noon with live music gearing up at 12:30 p.m. The event typically concludes around 11 p.m.
Along with Rick Burgess, the 2011 entertainment line-up includes Owing Adam (www.owingadam.com), Following Winter (www.follwingwinter.com), Steel Fading (www.myspace.com/steelfading), Soul Sister Sally (www.soulsistersally.com), John Waller (www.johnwallermusic.com), Chasen (http://chasenmusic.com), Red (http://redmusiconline.com), and Fireflight (www.fireflightrock.com). Modern rock band Fireflight was a GMA Dove Awards nominee in 2009 and 2010 and recently received its first GRAMMY nomination in the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album category.
After 11 years on the campus of Athens State University, SoulStock relocated to the Spirit of America Field in Point Mallard Park in 2010. The free event is supported by about 50 businesses and 47 churches across all denominational lines from North Alabama. Approximately 15,000 attended in 2010.
Admission is free. Donations of canned goods to benefit local food banks are encouraged. Attendees are encourages to being lawn chairs and blankets. For more information on SoulStock, visit its web site at www.soulstock.com.
