18th ANNUAL MAYFEST IN GUIN SET FOR MAY 13 & 14

Decatur, Ala. – A free concert, comedy skits, and the world’s tallest pinball machine top the agenda for the 18th annual Mayfest, a family-friendly celebration hosted by the town of Guin. Set for May 13-14, 2011, the two-day event takes place on US Highway 43 in downtown Guin. Admission is free.

The Alabama Blues Brothers kicks off the celebration with a free concert on Friday evening, May 13 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. behind City Hall. A variety of live music continues on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.

The World’s Tallest Pinball will also make an appearance at this year’s event. Festival goers will have a chance to play “Space Race” where a ball is launched up the chute and onto the playing board where it free falls. The object is to get the ball to the USA point at the bottom while avoiding the black hole locations on the game board.

Skin & Bones’ Comedy Circus will perform on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Their first class clown act also features trained dogs and potbellied pigs, juggling, low wire, magic, and plenty of comedy.

Additional activities lined up for the family-friendly event includes children’s activities, arts and crafts, a car show, a tractor pull and parade, 5K run, bake sale, and more. Amateur cooks are invited to participate in the Good Ole Boy’s BBQ cook-off. For more information, call Jimmy Harrison at 205.486.0176. Downtown merchants will also have sidewalk sales and will provide drawings for door prizes throughout the day. The event concludes at 4 p.m.

Booth space is still available for arts and crafts vendors. The cost per booth is $35 in advance or $45 after May 9. To download an application, go to www.guinal.org and click on the Mayfest link. For more information, call Elaine Junkin at 205.468.2118 or 205.412.2787.
