FLORENCE CELEBRATES THE ARTS WITH ANNUAL ARTS ALIVE

Decatur, Ala. – Set for May 14-15, 2011, Arts Alive is a two-day juried show featuring works of art from across the country and in 2011, the annual event celebrates its 25th year. Started in 1986, Arts Alive is a project of the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts volunteers and features artists specializing in painting, sculpture, pottery, fabric, stained glass, woodworking and jewelry.

 

The juried show will be held in the art gallery of the Kennedy –Douglass Center for the Arts. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place ($1,000), second place ($500), third place ($300) plus 14 additional artistic and merit awards will be given. Works in the gallery will be for sale.

In addition to the gallery show, the two-day art extravaganza also includes artists and crafters selling their wares in adjoining Wilson Park where festival goers from across the Southeast enjoy a leisurely stroll through beautiful the beautiful downtown park while enjoying fine arts and crafts.

 

Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days and the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts gift shop will be open during the two-day event. Proceeds from the festival benefit children’s art-education programs in area schools.
