COTTON PICKIN’ BBQ COOK-OFF INTRODUCES NEW PEOPLE’S CHOICE CONTEST

Decatur, Ala. – In 2010, the Cotton Pickin’ BBQ Cook-off made its debut, bringing all of the right ingredients for two days of fun and excitement in downtown Hartselle. Presented by the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, the annual event is set to return May 20-21, 2011 with a new People’s Choice Competition adding to the already flavorful weekend.

Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the cook-off attracts competitive chefs and backyard teams from across the South competing for over $3000 in prize money including a $1,000 Grand Champion award. Teams will arrive early Saturday in downtown Hartselle to prepare their unique barbeque, sauce or dessert. Judging will take place in Earth Park with the day wrapping up around 5 p.m. Entry forms are still being accepted and may be downloaded from www.hartsellechamber.com.

The People’s Choice Competition will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday with taste test armbands available for $5. The Taste Test armbands provide pulled pork samples for each of the competing teams and a vote in the People’s Choice Competition. Participants vote by placing money - one dollar is equivalent to one vote - into their selection. The team receiving the most votes will be declared People’s Choice Winner and will win one half of the total amount votes taken in and bragging rights for the year. The evening also includes live music from God’s Children Bluegrass Band.

In addition to the barbeque festivities, Hartselle’s Spring Fling shopping spree also returns in May for a chance to win some incredible door prizes including a cruise for two. Shoppers are invited to make purchases anywhere in the city of Hartselle on May 13, 14, 20 and 21 (through 3 p.m.). Receipts must be brought to The Depot on Saturday, May 21 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. where for every $10 spent, shoppers will receive one ticket towards a chance to win prizes. The drawing will be held in front of the Depot at approximately 6:30 p.m. and you must be present to win. Shoppers are also invited to come by The Depot on May 13th to receive one free ticket.
