Event offers education, children’s activities, recycling opportunities, music, and more


Mooresville, Ala. – April has been designated Earth Month worldwide and The Shoals area, comprised of Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia; celebrates with activities including music, live demonstrations, and art events. In commemoration of Earth Day, the 2nd annual Shoals Earth Day Fest is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2009.

The event will feature artists, music, children’s art and science contests and activity tent, exhibits from businesses that promote environmental responsibility, TVA environmental education booths, renewable energy, and recycling displays, and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring old batteries, computers, and cell phones for recycling.

The Shoals Earth Day Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Wilson Park, located at Tuscaloosa Street and Wood Avenue in downtown Florence. Admission is free.

In addition to Shoals Earth Day Fest, the Shoals area celebrates throughout the month of April with approximately forty events on the schedule including nature walks highlighting local wildflowers, birds, and hiking trails; tours of a solar home and the new North Alabama Biodiesel planet; free movie showings; and over events at the University of North Alabama located in Florence.
